Medical Imaging

ASAS Business Solutions provides specialist support to organisations involved in medical imaging services, combining deep clinical insight with senior-level commercial, procurement, governance and operational expertise.

The consultancy is led by Andy Shaw, a radiographer by background who has held senior clinical, operational and commercial leadership roles within one of Europe’s largest privately owned diagnostic imaging providers. His experience includes responsibility for major public sector tenders, service mobilisation, governance, and the development of MRI and PET/CT services across the UK.

Andy has supported national imaging providers with PET/CT tenders, delivered efficiency programmes to improve MRI throughput, developed MRI and CT policies, and delivered successful AQP Ultrasound bids. His focus is on helping organisations ensure that imaging services, bids and governance arrangements are clear, defensible and aligned with operational reality.

Our Approach to Medical Imaging

We bring a rare blend of clinical understanding and commercial discipline to imaging projects, ensuring that proposals, documentation and governance arrangements reflect how services are actually delivered.

Our work is grounded in:

  • Practical understanding of imaging workflows, equipment and service delivery
  • First-hand experience of large value NHS and public sector procurement
  • Strong appreciation of quality, safety and regulatory expectations
  • Alignment between procurement commitments, operational reality and financial viability
  • Clear, defensible documentation that stands up to scrutiny from commissioners, auditors and regulators

We work collaboratively with organisations, providing structured, pragmatic and proportionate support rather than generic templates.

What We Support With

Tender and Procurement Support

Drawing on extensive experience of OJEU (now PCR) tenders and major public sector contracts, we support organisations with:

  • Review of imaging specifications and evaluation criteria
  • Method statements, evidence and case studies for imaging-related bids
  • Structuring responses to demonstrate capability, quality and deliverability
  • Ensuring alignment between clinical, operational and commercial elements

Support covers multiple modalities — including PET/CT, MRI and Ultrasound — ensuring that tender responses are consistent with operational capability, governance arrangements and deliverable service models.

Governance, Compliance and Policy Development

We help organisations ensure that imaging governance arrangements are proportionate, practical and defensible. This includes:

  • Review or development of MRI, CT and wider imaging policies and procedures
  • Assurance frameworks for imaging services
  • Documentation that supports safe, effective and well-led imaging delivery
  • Alignment between clinical practice, governance expectations and contractual commitments

Our policy work is grounded in operational reality, ensuring documentation supports — rather than constrains — safe and effective imaging delivery.

Who This Support Is For

Our support may be relevant to:

  • Imaging service providers and suppliers responding to procurement opportunities
  • NHS trusts, private providers or investors reviewing imaging governance or quality systems
  • Organisations preparing for imaging service mobilisation, change or expansion
  • Teams seeking experienced, practical input to strengthen imaging documentation and assurance

Experience and Credibility

Andy Shaw has been directly involved in the development, procurement and delivery of major MRI, PET/CT and Ultrasound services across the NHS and independent sector. His experience includes:

  • Senior commercial leadership in a £240m+ diagnostic imaging business
  • Responsibility for major public sector tenders with a strong success rate
  • Leadership of PET/CT services with multi-million-pound budgets and large operational teams
  • Development of new imaging markets, including private-pay services
  • Contribution to significant revenue growth within a rapidly expanding imaging provider
  • Previous consultancy work includes:
    • PET/CT tender writing, supporting high-quality, commercially robust submissions aligned with NHS commissioning expectations
    • Operational efficiency work to improve MRI throughput, focusing on workflow design, capacity utilisation and realistic activity modelling
    • Successful tender writing for AQP Ultrasound services, MRI and PET/CT
    • Policy development for MRI and CT services, ensuring documentation is aligned with clinical practice, governance expectations and regulatory standards

His background also includes leadership of company-wide training and professional development programmes, including university-accredited MRI and CT courses and management qualifications, with full responsibility for departmental performance and quality assurance. This reinforces a long-standing focus on capability, governance and professional standards.

This experience informs a practical, commercially realistic and risk-aware approach to imaging consultancy.
